Wednesdays = best days
When did Wednesdays become so awesome? They've always been the meh-est of weekdays, that day in the middle of the week that is neither the start or the end, plus it has that weird name - basically, if Wednesdays were a color it would be beige. But now it's like the best TV day, not just in terms of number of shows, and not in terms of awesome shows (cause the only ones I'd call legit quality TV is Cougar Town and New Girl), but in terms of sheer happiness factor. Wednesdays is a day my eyeballs are happy.

NCIS LA: Not a great ep (always fun to see they remember Nate though, points for continuity) but Deeks was in it and he and Kenzi had ~banter so it fulfilled all my requirements for an episode of this show. I love that touché is a running joke they have now, and I also DEMAND an episode where we either flashback to Deeks in his public defender role or where he's forced to go undercover as one. I find it so hard to think he used to be a lawyer, he's such a cop! ... Or possibly a con man, I could see him as a con man. Which I guess is sort of like a lawyer, though perhaps not a public defender.
Also: lol at Hetty's undercover routine.

New Girl: I'm so glad this show seems to have realized Nick Miller is the greatest and are doing episodes focused on him. I wish they'd focus more on Winston instead of Schmidt though, cause that dude is just 100% getting on my nerves at this point. STOP STALKING CC. ALSO, GIVE CC A NON-DATING-RELATED STORYLINE. Also make Robbie go away.
But yeah, Nick's dad, fun guy and explaining a LOT about Nicholas "Little Penis" Miller. BTW, if they're ever pressed for material they should totally just do a half-hour of Jake Johnsson doing improv, he does the best non-verbal comedy. That dance, that dance, someone had better have GIFed that! Tumblr, don't fail me now!

Tumblr never fails. <3 They also had this:

THE WINK. *Ded.*

Hart of Dixie: WELL THEN. I was gonna quit watching after last episode, because I figured it's only a matter of time now before they break Zoe and Wade up in some horribly contrived manner and then it'll be the Zoe/George Show which: YAWN, but yeah, I'm glad I decided to postpone that for a bit. I realized they had to atleast let em have one episode of being adorable,  was a bit worried for a while there I'd be wrong but nope, they actually ... handled that whole first fight thing well? Both the writers and the characters? O_O I'm shocked beyond words, no lie. Still convinced they'll break em up in some really stupid TV-way though and then go straight for Zoe and George.
Don't curr about Lemon and Lavon's whole thing, but man Lemon's face when she almost fessed up why she sorta broke up him and Ruby (other than, you know, for the good of all of us)? Ugh, such a pretty sad face.

Cougar Town: Game of Thrones family night= funniest of all things in all shows, not just today but this week and possibly this month. I laughed so hard my eyes watered and my cat nearly fell out of my lap - he actually looked like he was worried I was having a stroke. (And I was laughing too hard to reassure him me having a stroke would look more like ... well, Nick Miller dancing, basically.) The gang embarrassing Trav = my favorite thing, especially if he's on a date (I also love it whenever they do that hiding-behind-furniture-and-jumping-out-to-sing-a-greeting thing to his girlfriends). Also yeah, watching Game of Thrones with your parents = on my top 5 list of most horrifying parents-related things.
The opener was also awesome, Jules and Trav, but the rest of the episode felt a little re-hashy and I didn't love Greyson's thing. Also Tom's cat story just made me sad and kind of furious at the gang, because they can be as mean as they want to Tom, but his cat? AW HELLS NO. Not cool, CDSC, not cool.

The Mindy Project: STOP MAKING ME SHIP MINDY/HANDSOME JERK, OKAY FINE TWIST MY ARM WHY DON'T YOU. (Or, you know, drop a bunkbed on my arm, as it were.) Yeah, Danny's definitely growing on me, I liked his flirty thing with the girl from Girls too so I don't mind if that happens - I think certain shows have burnt me to too much on ships that happen too soon so now I'm all for many seasons of UST. But not unreasonable many, mind.
Bit sad they're going to be cutting down on Anna Camp, I love her and her kid and how Mindy is frequently terrible with said kid but then she's awesome and everything is adorable. Wish they'd cut down on Morgan instead (or just cut him entirely), he's the biggest drag of the show.

In conclusion: Wednesdays are awesome. (You know what is not awesome though? This cinnamon bun thingy I'm attempting to eat. The cinnamon stuff tastes like arsenic. How do you fail at cinnamon buns? *I* can make cinnamon buns, and I have not touched an oven since home ed class in 8th grade.)

Totally don't want to be spoiled, but I did want to say The Mindy Project is growing on me, so stay tuned for commentary. :) I have to download it on iTunes because Hulu is evil though.... and I'm too paranoid to do it the non-legal way. :P

ETA: Okay, saw it. Yeah, I wish they weren't cutting Mindy's friend too - I actually kind of like that subplot because it sort of rings true, how sometimes (especially when you're single) it takes forever to acknowledge that a friend or family member or whatever has started a family. Mindy's a bit bitchy about it, but I think it's always harder to get used to if you're still in the "old" situation. But I guess I can understand why they want to focus on the other characters. I mean, Shawna (Seanna?) and Betsy or whatever her name is really could use character development... I just feel like there's something there but the show hasn't made room to work with what that is very much. Still, it's rare that you see a genuine friendship between women on TV, but maybe they'll go that route with the two receptionists?

Danny's growing on me too, and honestly, so is Mindy. I feel like they're toning the douche factor of both of them down a bit, which is nice. I get the sense they're both nice people when they want to be, but Danny's a bit jaded and Mindy's just... kind of clueless socially. Which I like, actually - she's clearly smart enough that she graduated med school and made partner pretty quickly, but she reacts to life like it's a romantic comedy or a sitcom. (But still knows when to get real. Eventually.)

Yeah I like it too, I feel like it gives the show a nice balance to the antics at the doctor's office. Guess they feel it'll become too split, but I hate it when shows get lodged in one place.
I wouldn't hold my breath with the receptions if I were you, I hope this doesn't count as a big spoiler but last I heard they were cutting back on/dumping Shawna entirely. I just wish they'd dump Morgan, I seriously cannot stand him.
As for genuine female friendships I think I'll have to disagree, maybe it's not as common as it should be but I wouldn't say rare either: Rizzoli & Isles, Jess and Cece on New Girl (though they do need more screentime together, but I get the show wanting to establish Cece as more than just Jess' BFF), Ann and Leslie on P&R, Ellie and Jules (and Laurie) on Cougar Town, Max and Caroline on 2 Broke Girls... Just off the top of my head.

They've definitely realized that Mindy and Danny have the biggest potential on this show, I'm glad about that. Danny started out pretty iffy but they've done a good job in humanizing him and making him more likable without changing him completely. Mindy's still more of a work-in-progress, but then that's the whole premise of the show basically so that's understandable. I love the balance of optimist/pessimist ships, Jess and Nick have the same thing going on New Girl and it's delightful. I only wish there was one where the roles were reversed, possibly because I'd totally identify more with a jaded cynic girl. ^^

No, you're right, I think my biggest problem is that I've been looking in the "wrong places" for female friendships, so to speak.

I really don't like Morgan either. Normally I'm fine with Joey Tribbiani-esque characters, but he's not even funny dumb, he's creepy dumb and it's irritating, and I also don't see much chance of him growing.

I'm some strange combination of optimistic and jaded... lol. So I can identify with both Jess and Nick types. Jess is who I am to my family and friends, but I think I come across as more of a Nick to people who don't know me, because I just can't open up.

So, I actually really enjoyed NCIS:LA this week (I think helped in part that they have clearly stolen the touche line from my actual life, where this boy that I have a totally inappropriate thing for uses it at me all the time. Yeah, I have a Kensi/Deeks relationship in my life. Only less UC make-outs and shooting). Hetty was hilarious and it's always nice to see Nate back from time to time. They seem to have made endless references to Deeks' time as a public defender in the last few weeks, so I can only assume that something is going to come of this?

Hart of Dixie was suddenly back to its golden heyday of feel good TV this week. Everything was delightful but ESPECIALLY the end scene in the bathroom which made my shipper heart just about burst with joy. George who? NO CURR!
Mariadotty on January 17th, 2013 12:27 pm (UTC)
Hah, jealous! You should make the UC make-outs happen with that boy, just drag him along on a mission to spy on someone for some made-up reason and then when you're almost caught you can do the "nope, don't mind us here, we're just making out" thing. XD Or you could go ask him out on a date and go play laser-tag, for the shooting aspect. Inappropriate pffh, no such thing! :D
I hope you're right about Deeks, I hadn't noticed them mentioning it a lot lately but then I may be slightly distracted during any scene he's in. For some reason. Can't imagine why. *cough*

Ugh, so gloriously feel-good happy funtimes! My favorite scene was them in the kitchen making Lavon nauseous and this:
Photobucket
Dawwww. I loved how they handled the fight, it was all perfect. And George is actually pretty hilarious on his own, especially when forced to give out advice while trying to magically think his way into a universe in which he is not having this discussion. XD

Well now, that is a superb idea regarding UC makeouts and shooting. Clearly I should ask you for advice more often! I'm pretty sure that they've been dangling it under our noses. I find that I also get somewhat distracted during those scenes too!

I LOVED THE KITCHEN SCENES THEY WERE BEST!!!! And yeah, I didn't hate George this episode. I actually really like him as 'George' just not as one half of 'GeorgeandZoe'. They won't go there will they? Will they?!
Maria: wc: plotdotty on January 18th, 2013 12:26 pm (UTC)
Hahaha, that is a terrible idea, I get all my wisdom from TV shows. XD Then again, I always think life would be a lot more fun if it was more like TV...

Yeah, he's a lot more enjoyable when he's not being pushed together with Zoe, but I'm pretty positive that sooner or later it WILL happen. The one chance we have is if the show is cancelled this season and they don't have time to squish it in before then, if not then it's inevitable.
